Morocco Guide
The exotic country of Morocco is situated on the north western tip of Africa. The Moroccan coastline runs past the straits of Gibraltar and into the Atlantic Ocean. Morocco is a deceptively large country with a total surface area of over 447,000 sq km, similar to that of France. The Moroccan coastline is at it's closest only 14 kilometres from Spain and Gibraltar, making it easily accessible from mainland Spain, either by ferry or aircraft.
Morocco is separated from the African continent by the towering Atlas Mountains and the vast Sahara dessert. The land is split into two contrasting eco-climates, the north has a similar climate and vegetational growth to Mediterranean countries, While, the south is dominated by dramatic cliffs and open dessert.
The sheer Atlas Mountains form the backbone of the Moroccan province and is split into three different ranges. The middle Atlas range in the north of morocco reaches a height of 3,340meters and is a combination of lush green hills and forests. The high atlas range reaches a height of over 4,100 meters and is dominated by stunning valleys and mountain passes, as well as the breathtaking Dades and Todra gorges. The Anti Atlas is the southern most mountain range, making it extream ly dry and baron as a result of it's proximity to the Sahara Desert.
The national language of morocco is Arabic, however, English is widely spoken in the areas of high tourism.
Morocco has many diverse cities to visit. Rabat the nation's capital is a modern, cosmopolitan city with tree lined streets and a modern lifestyle. Tangiers is renowned for craft markets and narrow cobbled streets. Marrakech offers visitors an opportunity to experience Moroccan culture and tradition and Casablanca is still very popular for visitors interested in following the trail of Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.
