Thailand Guide
Thailand (Prathet Thai, meaning "land of the free"), is a lush tropical landscape, with a theatre of culture and heritage. Thailand is located midway between India and china, the two dominant civilisations that moulded south East Asia. Despite significant historical influence, Thailand has maintained a very distinctive style and culture.
Thailand is split into 4 natural regions:
The Mountainous North, famed for multicoloured orchids, tropical fruit and a wide array of exotic handicrafts. The north of the island tends to be cooler that the south of the island, particularly in the winter months.
The North-eastern plateau, guards the archaeological and anthropological treasures of Thailand.
The central plain, Noted as some of the worlds most fertile land. The rice fields in the central plains are the largest exporters of rice in the world.
The Southern Peninsular, famed for unspoilt beaches and stunning secluded islands. A very popular destination for European and Asian tourism, the southern tip is littered with excellent hotels, restaurants and bars.
Thailand enjoys a blissful tropical climate that is split into three distinct seasons. The seasons vary from hot and dry from February to May (approx. 34 ºC), rainy with plenty of sunshine from June to October (approx 29 ºC) and mild from November to January (32 ºC).
The national language is Thai. In Spoken and written forms Thai is largely incomprehensible to a tourist or foreign visitor. However, fortunately for tourist English is widely spoken and understood, particularly in areas of high tourism such as Bangkok, Phuket and Koi Samui.
